Listen to Petra explain her Teaching Inquiry on video (Just under 6 minutes long)

Teaching Inquiry Question
How can I develop the quality (content and vocabulary) of information given during weekly news?

The Highlight of the Project

By simply beginning the process of using ICT in one aspect of my teaching and learning, I have been astounded out how this has extended into other aspects of my teaching without huge amounts of effort. As a result children’s learning has become more meaningful.

Problems / Difficulties and my Solutions
Managing the recording of the podcast was the most difficult part of the project. I initially assisted with the recording. The children learnt quickly how to record this themselves, so I let them take control of this. However, some groups took far too long, accidentally deleted sections or had arguments. In the end, it was easiest to have one student always record and I overlooked the process.

Conclusions and Where to Next

I have been truly amazed throughout this process as to what the children have been able to teach me. My next step as a teacher is to explore how I can further break down the walls of the classroom, through the use of different ICT tools.

What difference has your Teaching Inquiry made to student learning?
The students in my original focus groups showed a huge improvement in their confidence as speakers. Podcasting is a fantastic tool as it allows for students to listen to their work before they publish it. As students were preparing their news shows, they also became better at researching and using different tools for finding information.
